Virtual Tour Platform Quality Assurance (City Cutouts)
By
John Phung

This project involved quality assurance (QA) testing for a newly developed web platform by the City Cutouts team—a virtual tour platform showcasing city routes generated from public contributions. I was engaged as a consultant to provide technical and user experience (UX) insights, identify bugs, and ensure the platform met high standards of functionality and usability. This early-stage prototype aimed to offer immersive city tours, blending community-driven content with innovative web technology.
Challenges
- Dynamic Route Testing: Validating user-generated tour routes required simulating diverse inputs to ensure accuracy and stability, a complex task given the public-sourced data.
- UX Consistency: Balancing technical performance with an intuitive user experience across devices posed challenges, especially for a visually rich virtual tour interface.
- Bug Identification: Reproducing and documenting bugs in a confidential, evolving platform demanded meticulous attention to detail and creative problem-solving.
My Contributions
- Delivered quality assurance reports for each development iteration, providing actionable feedback to refine the platform.
- Provided service-based consulting, advising on technical architecture and UX enhancements to optimize performance and engagement.
- Compiled detailed bug reports with step-by-step reproduction methods, enabling developers to address issues efficiently.
Learnings
- Enhanced my ability to assess and improve both technical and UX aspects of a web application.
- Developed expertise in QA testing for dynamic, user-generated content systems.
- Strengthened my skills in concise, impactful reporting under confidentiality constraints.
Skills Demonstrated
